Environmental Training to Spread Far and Wide in 2013

In what is reportedly the first of many such schemes, Barnsley College are offering 100 free places on a new Environmental Awareness Training course they are running in 2013! The aim is, of course, to increase awareness and give people who can really make a difference access to the genuine facts and figures, and to encourage them to think environmentally.

Recycling Trumps Landfill for First Time in DEFRA Results

It’s back to recycling again this week for some good news! Yes, it’s high time we had some good news around here, and luckily, we’ve found just the ecological uplifter to make your day all the more worthwhile! Whilst this doesn’t directly relate to our dedication to wastewater treatment, it’s certainly a big win for the environmentally oriented among us, and, as we explored last time, now it’s time to step up our game and bring England’s water in line with this fantastic recycling achievement!

The big news is, of course, that recycling has tipped landfill for the win for the first time in England! This astonishing news comes as a result of the 2011/12 recycling figure is released, and shows how landfill’s impeccable plummet has been equalled only by the recycled/composted amount of waste rising to snap victory from the very jaws of defeat!

The figures come from the Department for the Environmental Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) themselves, and are a markedly accomplished result for the company. Indeed, the landfill figure has fallen over 50% in the last twelve years , dropping from 22.4m tonnes in 2001/2 to a mere 9.6m tonnes in 2011/12. Whilst there’s still plenty of work to do, this is a great sign that we’re all making a real difference.

DEFRA are reportedly confident that authorities will step up to the plate in the coming years, capitalize on this  achievement and driving up recycling, and squashing landfill with every year that comes to pass.

As we mentioned then, now is the time for us to make Britain’s waters a better place to be – contribute to the outstanding pro-environmental effort we’re making all over the country by ensuring not only is your business recycling wherever possible; but that you’re also streamlining the wastewater that comes as a product of your output, hiring the experts here at ESS to treat it through and make for cleaner safer environment all round! Give us a call today!

Now is the Time to Act for your Waters

Water is the lifeblood of our world. The Earth itself is 71% water, whilst up to 60% of the human body consists of the base fluid. It is powerful enough to carve caverns in cliff faces, and delicate enough to disappear with a touch. The act of watching it fall attributes to the main attraction in Niagara, a spectacle that people from all over the world fly in to see. We need it to survive, exist and live, it is the main ingredient in many aspects of our lives and without it, things would be very, very different. That in mind then, the state of the world’s water is in disarray, and we at Environmental Screening and Separation want to help!

The World is Getting Greener: A Recycling Infographic

Recycling is an issue on all our minds these days, and whether it’s separating our plastics from our general waste, or whether it’s ensuring your industrial workplace has a comprehensive and thorough wastewater treatment system in place, the importance of going green has never been more predominant.

Indeed, us here at Environmental Screening Towers have been having a good old natter about the building success of the worldwide recycling initiative, and how many of our clients have made sure that, by using our services, their business is running efficiently, productively and as greenly as possible.

Fortunately with so much we can all do to contribute toward the green effort, it’s clear that all over the world, people are seizing the opportunity for a better tomorrow. But meticulously explaining each and every fact and figure in regards to recycling progress wouldn’t be much fun now would it? No sir. Better than us describing just how far we’ve progressed in recent years, here’s a handy infographic, that explains all you could want to know and more in a manner so consumable you could eat it. Although we don’t really recommend that. Have a read through this and be fascinated by the figures, captivated by the calculations and numbed by the numbers!

Invest In a Cleaner Environment with Wastewater Treatment

It’s a widely known fact that our actions have a direct impact on the world around us and this impact can be incredibly damaging. Consequently, it is everyone’s responsibility to do their bit to help the environment and if your business is producing wastewater, it’s essential that you invest in quality wastewater treatment to reduce the effect of your business on our environment. Here at Environmental Screening & Separation we specialise in wastewater and sludge treatment which can help your business become more environmentally friendly by addressing the problem of your wastewater effectively.

Make the Environment a Priority

As a business owner you’re likely to have a hundred and one things to do and to think about on a daily basis; when you’re dealing with a to-do list as long as your arm as well organising the day to day running of your business, it’s understandable that certain things will be pushed to the back of your mind and eventually forgotten about. When is the Right Time to Carry out Wastewater Treatment?

In any industrial unit or as part of any premises, you will have process that produce not only the intended product, but also waste materials, left over parts and rubbish that needs to be gotten rid of. Often this disappears off into your system and you may not think of it again, however with such a potentially large output and the nature of the waste, getting it treated is an absolute necessity, with a range of advantages. Here at Environmental Screening, we’re the experts when it comes to providing efficient and comprehensive waste management systems, and wastewater treatment is just one of the services we provide. But when is the right time to call us?

Essentially, as soon as you start producing your products, or your unit starts functioning, you are creating waste and waste water, and the longer this is left, the harder it can be to deal with. As such, the right time to get your waste management program involved with your wastewater is now.

Once treated, wastewater can be administered back into the environment, and therefore its treatment is a sustainable and environmentally friendly process that is favoured the world over, and an imperative element of any waste management program. Clean water plays a huge part in our daily lives, and if the billions of gallons of wastewater created by the industries wasn’t treated, we’d be in a very difficult situation indeed.

The fact is, the wastewater in your place of work is, at the moment, creating an environment that is negatively impacting on the world around it, as well as the employees and the customers you may see on a daily basis. Having an efficient and functioning management program alleviates all this threat, streamlining this aspect of your business, leaving you to worry about the important things.

Here at Environmental Screening, we’re bringing effective wastewater treatment to you today, with our cleaning and separation service, you’ll see dramatic changes to your environmental impact. How the Sludge Treatment Process Works

You might have heard of sludge treatment in the past but are unsure as to what it actually is, how it works and the benefits it can bring to your business or how you treat waste. To answer the first question in the briefest way possible, sludge treatment is essentially the process of dealing with any harmful solids that are found within waste or water when it is being disposed of, with an intention of environmental and recyclable gain. Got it? Well the question still remains over how it actually works, so allow the expertise we have here at Environmental Screening & Separation to take you through it all.

Separating the Sludge

First of all the sludge (solid materials) actually has to be separated from the liquid waste that it is being carried inside, so it is essentially pushed out and collected from the main bulk of the liquids so that the real treatment of all the sludge can begin…

Blending and Heating

The sludge is then blended together to create one composite material and then heated over a lengthy period of time to allow bacteria to break it down and remove the harmful contaminants. This specific process is called ‘anaerobic digestion’ and as a result releases biogas which can be used to create heat which in turn will be used to create electricity – the first step of your waste materials being recycled and used for the greater good begins!

Distribution

Once the above process has run its course, what was once sludge will now be largely smell-free and resembling dry coffee granules, as the intense heat will have evaporated the rest of the water. This means that it is ready to be compacted into a substance widely known as ‘cake’ which is bagged up and distributed to customers such as farmers.

So there you have it, sludge treatment: the number one way to treat your waste in an environmentally friendly method.

How the Wastewater Treatment Process Works

In recent years it has become more and more apparent that we all have a responsibility to do everything we can to protect the environment and wastewater treatment is an important aspect of this. In the past, many businesses have simply dumped their wastewater or the sludge without any regard for the impact that has on the surrounding environment. Here at Environmental Screening and Separation, we provide the latest in wastewater treatment equipment that can help your business be as environmentally friendly as possible. So how does the wastewater treatment process work?

1. Screening

The wastewater is initially screened for any large foreign solid objects that are easily removed from the water. This can include objects such as face wipes and cotton buds.

2. Primary Treatment

This step involves the separation and removal of any organic solid matter. The wastewater is allowed to settle in a tank which results in all waste matter sinking to the bottom of the tank to form sludge which is removed from the water.

3. Secondary Treatment

The water then travels into aeration lanes for the removal of any smaller organic matter that was not removed during the primary treatments and of any harmful bugs.

4. Final Treatment

The final stage of treatment, again, allows the water to settle in a tank which causes bacteria to sink to the bottom forming more sludge. After all of the sludge and harmful bacteria are removed from the wastewater, it is then ready to be put back into rivers as clean water.

This process is essential to minimise any impact on the environment. Here at Environmental Screening and Separation, we ensure that our treatment service meets all regulations and restrictions set by the Environmental Agency. If you would like more information about how our services could benefit you, please browse our website or contact us today with any questions that you may have.

Why Carry Out Sludge Treatment?

Wherever there is a large body of water, be it a canal or a waste stream for industrial or domestic use, it needs regular attention and treatment to ensure it maintains high standards of hygiene and efficiency. Here at Environmental Screening and Separation we are highly experienced in carrying out sludge and wastewater treatment; but why is it so important to carry out sludge treatment? The bottom line is that it saves money. Carrying out sludge treatment reduces the volume of sewage, which is essential for all kinds of water treatment. If you keep the volume of sewage to a minimum it reduces the cost of disposing the sludge.

Benefits of Carrying Out Sludge Treatment

- It is more environmentally friendly; sludge used to be simply dumped in the nearest place, in the easiest way possible, now we can deal with it in a much more eco-friendly way
- You can recycle the wastewater, again helping to cut costs
- It creates a healthier working/living environment for everyone
- It helps to reduce energy costs
